Janna Paneijer Conférence on Clay Building as Self Expression

Janna Pameijer, is a renowned clay artist from Australia. In particular, she has been a very experienced sculptor, educator, and teacher for more than 30 years.   She conducts workshops regularly, both from her studio and in numerous centres throughout Australia, and in recent years, also in Italy and Morocco. Her ‘down to earth’ practical approach to clay has begun many careers in this field among her students.

The Way with Clay to Self Expression

Janna would like to present the process of practical clay construction with the view to using it as a tool to create forms freely. This encourages the way to self expression.

Some find working with clay a place where, out of the silence of the mind, a form appears.

For others,  their desire to make a special form, one that has been sitting deep in their thoughts or at their finger tips waits for the right moment to reveal itself.

This moment is often held back due to various reasons, such as lack of technical skill or understanding of the material, or time.  It could be through the fear of falling short of one's perceived desire.

These are all what we consider valid reasons to stay the dreamer or procrastinator and hold this expression within.

How much easier would it be if the way with clay were joyful and fearless and timeless!

Clay is a wonderful building material.  It is flexible, adaptable, malleable, adjustable, allows spontaneous surface textures, etc. It takes on your very finger print!

Janna would like to introduce you to this wonderful medium of clay as she enjoys it. She would like to share her clay building techniques to allow you to begin to freely form the shapes of your dreams.

To allow the journey to begin, one must take the first step and embark on this, a personal adventure!

Suggested Programme for the Presentation Evening

Presentation of images depicting  Janna’s work and home environment in Australia,  images of recent works,  a variety of  subject matter and surface treatment, as well as works in progress taken during her many years travelling and teaching.

This will be intersperced with hands-on clay presentations, which will demonstrate some of the practical techniques which make it possible to build clay forms confidently.

The evening may be intermingled with questions and answers as Janna enjoys the interaction with the audience.
